Courses for Teaching Assistants

I have delivered INSET training and induction training for primary and secondary school teaching assistants. I have taught on specific NVQ courses and have been an assessor and tutor for the HLTA award.

All courses are flexible and can be adapted to your needs.


I offer school-based and centrally-based INSET training for teaching assistants and teachers in a range of child related topics including:

Behaviour Management for Teaching Assistants
- for primary or secondary school support Staff

A one day or two morning training which enables participants to explore why children misbehave, to develop positive relationships with pupils, and to learn strategies to manage behaviour.

Safeguarding/Child Protection

Inset training for teaching staff and support staff. To help participants to recognise the signs of child abuse, be clear about school policy and procedures, explore appropriate professional conduct in the workplace.

Emotinal Intelligence and the Whole Child

A training session for teachers, teaching assistants and other support staff. The course will cover an introduction to the importance of emothional intelligence, it will explore initiatives and practice developed by schools and nurseries to help children to thrive in this area, and to help staff to contribute with greater confidence to childrens emotional learning.

Teachers and Teaching Assistants Working Together

This is whole school training. It aims to help staff members come to terms with the changing role of the teaching assistant, and to develop effective joint practice. The course will: equip teachers with the necessary skills for the constructive management of teaching assistants, examine systems within the classroom and whole school community. During the day teachers and teaching assistants will work separately and together to explore these issues.

Whole School Self Esteem in Schools - for teaching and non-teaching staff

This I day school based course is for the whole staff team and aims to introduce participants to the idea of a “whole school "community, and enable participants to build structures and procedures to aid communicate and raise self-esteem for all.

Recognising Bullying

A Workshop for primary school teachers and teaching assistants. This workshop aims to enable teaching staff to recognise bullying and to work more effectively with the children involved.
